Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 lbs pork shoulder (boneless or bone-in)
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 cups shredded green cabbage
  • 1 cup shredded purple cabbage
  • 1/2 cup grated carrots
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Slider buns
  • Optional: pickles or sliced jalapeños for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pork: Pat the pork shoulder dry with paper towels. Combine smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne (if using), salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Rub this spice mix all over the pork.
  2. Slow Cook: Place the seasoned pork into the slow cooker. Pour the apple cider and BBQ sauce over the top. Cover and cook on low for 8–10 hours or high for 4–5 hours, until the pork is tender and easily shreddable.
  3. Make the Slaw: In a mixing bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, honey, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. Add shredded cabbage, purple cabbage, and carrots, and toss until everything is well-coated. Chill in the fridge until ready to serve.
  4. Shred the Pork: Once the pork is cooked, transfer it to a cutting board and use meat shredding claws or two forks to pull it apart into shreds. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and mix it with the juices.
  5. Assemble the Sliders: Toast slider buns lightly if desired. Add a generous portion of shredded pork to the bottom bun, top with a scoop of tangy slaw, and finish with pickles or jalapeños if desired. Place the top bun and serve.
