A comforting and festive drink combining rich espresso with warm gingerbread spices, perfect for chilly mornings or holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/3 cup strong espresso or brewed coffee
  • 1 cup whole milk (or almond, oat, or coconut milk for dairy-free)
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • Whipped cream (optional)
  • Ground nutmeg (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Brew your espresso (about 1/3 cup) or a strong cup of coffee and set it aside.
  2. In a small saucepan, combine molasses, brown sugar, ground ginger, cinnamon, and cloves. Heat over low-medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar dissolves and a smooth syrup forms (about 2-3 minutes).
  3. Add the milk to the saucepan and whisk the mixture together. Heat until the milk is warm but not boiling (about 3-4 minutes). Aim for around 150Β°F (65Β°C) if using a milk thermometer.
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat and whisk in the brewed espresso. Froth the milk mixture if desired for extra creaminess.
  5. Pour the mixture into a mug.
  6. Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of ground nutmeg for garnish.
  7. Serve immediately while warm and aromatic.

Notes

[‘Don’t boil the milk to avoid curdling.’, ‘Adjust sweetness by reducing brown sugar if preferred.’, ‘Use fresh spices for the best flavor.’, ‘Gingerbread syrup can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to a week.’, ‘Experiment with frothing techniques for a creamy texture.’]
