Crispy Bacon-Wrapped Asparagus Bundles

A quick and easy appetizer featuring tender asparagus wrapped in crispy bacon, perfect for entertaining or a tasty snack.

  • 20 medium-thick fresh asparagus spears, trimmed and ends snapped off
  • 10 slices thin sliced bacon
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Toothpicks or kitchen twine (for securing bundles if needed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
  2. Rinse and snap off the woody ends of the asparagus. Pat dry thoroughly.
  3. In a mixing bowl, drizzle olive oil over the asparagus and sprinkle with freshly cracked black pepper and garlic powder if using. Toss to coat evenly.
  4. Group 3-4 asparagus spears together. Wrap one slice of bacon around each bundle starting near the bottom, spiraling up to secure tightly. Use toothpicks if the bacon doesn’t hold well.
  5. Place bundles seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between bundles.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes, turning the bundles halfway through for even cooking, until bacon is crispy and asparagus is tender but not mushy.
  7. Optional: Remove toothpicks carefully. Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese on the hot bundles and return to the oven for an additional 2 minutes until cheese melts slightly.
  8. Serve warm.

Notes

Use thin-sliced bacon for best crispiness. Flip bundles halfway through baking for even cooking. If bacon isn’t crisping, broil for 1-2 minutes watching closely. Can be made ahead and refrigerated up to 12 hours before baking. Reheat leftovers in oven or toaster oven to restore crispiness. For dairy-free, skip Parmesan or use vegan alternative.
