Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×9 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
  2. Melt the butter and chopped bittersweet chocolate together in a heatproof bowl over simmering water or in the microwave in 20-second bursts, stirring until smooth and velvety, about 5 minutes.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk the granulated sugar and eggs together until pale and slightly thickened, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Pour the warm chocolate-butter mixture into the egg mixture, stirring continuously to avoid cooking the eggs. The batter will be glossy and thick.
  5. Stir in 2 teaspoons of pure vanilla extract.
