A warm, comforting peach butter made with ripe peaches, brown sugar, and cinnamon, perfect for spreading on toast or adding to yogurt. This easy recipe captures the sweetness of summer with a cozy, spiced flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 pounds fresh peaches, peeled, pitted, and chopped
  • 1 cup (200 g) packed brown sugar
  • 12 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Peel, pit, and chop about 4 pounds of ripe peaches. To peel easily, score an “X” on the bottom of each peach, blanch in boiling water for about 30 seconds, then plunge into ice water. Skins should slip off. Chop into roughly 1-inch pieces.
  2. Place chopped peaches, brown sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, vanilla extract (if using), and salt into a large heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven.
  3. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat, stirring frequently. Once boiling, reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered, stirring every 5-10 minutes to prevent sticking and burning. The mixture will bubble and thicken after about 30 minutes.
  4. Continue simmering for 45-60 minutes until the mixture has reduced by at least half and has a deep, rich color. The bubbling will slow as the liquid thickens.
  5. Use an immersion blender to purée the peach mixture in the pot to your desired texture. For smooth butter, blend thoroughly; for chunkier spread, pulse lightly. Alternatively, transfer to a food processor or blender in batches after cooling slightly.
  6. Taste and adjust cinnamon or sugar as desired. If too runny, continue cooking gently, stirring often. The final texture should be thick and spreadable.
  7. Spoon the warm peach butter into clean, sterilized jars or containers, leaving some headspace if preserving long-term. Let cool completely at room temperature before sealing and refrigerating.

Notes

Use ripe but firm peaches for best texture. Blanch peaches to peel easily and avoid bitterness from skins. Stir frequently to prevent burning. The peach butter thickens as it cools. Store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks or freeze for up to 3 months. Adjust cinnamon and sugar to taste. For a chunkier texture, pulse blend lightly.
