A spooky and sweet Halloween treat featuring crispy rice cereal coated in dark chocolate, decorated with white chocolate details and candy eyes to resemble black cats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 oz dark chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark, at least 60% cocoa)
  • 2 oz white chocolate chips
  • 3 cups crispy rice cereal
  • 1 pack small round candy eyes
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • Parchment paper
  • Toothpicks

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and have all ingredients measured and ready.
  2. Place dark chocolate chips and butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on 50% power for 1 minute, stir, then continue in 15-second intervals until smooth and glossy.
  3. Gently fold in the crispy rice cereal until every piece is coated, being careful not to crush the cereal.
  4. Spread the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet into an even layer about 1/4 inch thick.
  5. Chill the base in the refrigerator for 10 minutes until firm to the touch.
  6. Melt white chocolate chips in a separate small bowl using low-power microwave intervals.
  7. Use a toothpick to draw ears, eye dots, a nose, and whiskers with the white chocolate. Place candy eyes over the eye dots and press gently.
  8. Return to the refrigerator for 15 minutes to fully set, then break into irregular pieces.

Notes

Ensure all equipment is completely dry to prevent chocolate from seizing. Use 50% microwave power to avoid burning. For a vegan version, use dairy-free chocolate chips and verify candy eyes are vegan-friendly. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
