A quick and spooky Halloween party snack featuring mini sausages wrapped in flaky puff pastry to resemble mummies, baked until golden brown.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 sheets frozen puff pastry, thawed but cold
  • 1 package mini sausages (cocktail wieners), approx. 20-24 pieces
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon milk or water
  • White sesame seeds (for eyes)
  • Butter, melted (optional, for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Lay thawed puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface and roll slightly to smooth creases.
  3. Cut each pastry sheet into 1-inch wide strips.
  4. Place a mini sausage at one end of a pastry strip and roll tightly, leaving a small gap at the top for the head. Tuck the end under to secure.
  5. Arrange wrapped sausages on baking sheets, leaving 2 inches between each.
  6. Use a small knife to make two small slits at the top of each sausage for eye sockets.
  7. Whisk egg and milk together. Brush pastry strips lightly with egg wash.
  8. Press sesame seeds into the eye slits.
  9. Bake for 15-20 minutes, rotating sheets halfway through, until pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  10. Cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before serving warm.

Notes

Keep the pastry cold to ensure flakiness. Do not overcrowd the baking sheet as the pastry will expand. For best results, use frozen or chilled sausages to prevent sogginess. Can be frozen before baking and baked from frozen, adding 5-10 minutes to cook time.
