Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, browned
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1/2 cup (150g) chocolate hazelnut spread

Instructions

  1. Brown the butter: Place 1/2 cup unsalted butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir frequently as it melts, foams, then turns golden brown with a nutty aroma. Remove from heat and pour into a heatproof bowl to cool slightly.
  2. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line with parchment paper.
  3. In a large bowl, combine browned butter and 1 cup granulated sugar. Beat in 2 eggs one at a time until fully incorporated. Add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and mashed bananas; mix until smooth but do not overmix.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 1/2 cups flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon if using.
  5. Gradually fold dry ingredients into wet mixture until just combined. Batter should be thick and moist.
  6. Pour half the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Dollop half the chocolate hazelnut spread in spoonfuls over the batter. Pour remaining batter on top, then add remaining chocolate hazelnut spread in spoonfuls. Use a butter knife or skewer to gently swirl the chocolate hazelnut through the batter creating a marbled pattern.
  7. Bake for 55-65 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs but no raw batter. Tent with foil halfway through if top browns too quickly.
  8. Cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

Use ripe bananas with brown spots for natural sweetness and moisture. Brown butter adds a deeper, nutty flavor compared to melted butter. Swirl chocolate hazelnut gently to create ribbons without overmixing. Tent with foil if top browns too fast. Let bread cool completely before slicing to avoid crumbling.
