Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Orange and yellow gel food coloring
  • Assorted crackers and bread
  • Cured meats (prosciutto, salami, soppressata)
  • Other cheeses (aged gouda, brie, goat cheese)
  • Fresh fruits and vegetables (green apple slices, red grapes, carrot sticks, celery)
  • Spooky snacks (candy corn, pretzel sticks, chocolate-covered almonds, gummy worms)
  • Nuts and dried fruits (roasted salted almonds, pecans, dried cranberries, apricots)
  • Olives and pickles (cornichons, kalamata olives, pickled okra)
  • Dips and spreads (honey, whole-grain mustard)

Instructions

  1. Prep Your Mold: Line a small loaf pan or dish with plastic wrap, leaving overhang on all sides. Set aside.
  2. Make the Savory Base Layer (White): In a medium bowl, combine 8 oz softened cream cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Beat with a hand mixer until smooth and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes. Spread evenly into the bottom of the prepared loaf pan (about 1-inch thick). Refrigerate to firm up.
  3. Make the Sweet Middle Layer (Yellow): In a clean bowl, combine remaining 8 oz softened cream cheese and honey. Beat until smooth. Add a tiny drop of yellow gel food coloring and beat until uniform. Spread gently on top of the white layer. Return to fridge.
  4. Make the Cheesy Top Layer (Orange): In another clean bowl, combine 8 oz softened cream cheese and shredded sharp cheddar. Beat until smooth. Add a tiny drop of orange gel food coloring and beat until vibrant orange. Spread on top of the yellow layer, smoothing the top.
  5. Chill and Set: Fold overhanging plastic wrap over the top. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight until firm.
  6. Unmold the Cheese: Remove pan from fridge, unfold plastic wrap, place serving board upside down over pan, flip, lift pan off, and gently peel away plastic wrap.
  7. Assemble the Board: Place Candy Corn Cheese block in a prominent spot. Arrange small bowls of olives, pickles, and dips around it. Fill gaps with cured meats, crackers, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and spooky snacks. Layer for height and visual interest.

Notes

Don’t skip the chill time—4 hours minimum is essential for clean layers. Use gel food coloring to avoid thinning the cream cheese. Ensure cream cheese is at room temperature for smooth mixing. For a spooky touch, use bat-shaped cookie cutters on salami slices.
