This Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte with Real Pumpkin is creamy, spiced, and made with real ingredients like pumpkin purée, maple syrup, and warm spices. It’s budget-friendly, customizable, and perfect for cozy fall mornings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (240 ml) strong brewed coffee or espresso
  • 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk (or oat milk for dairy-free)
  • 3 tablespoons (45 g) pumpkin purée (100% pure, not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) maple syrup (or brown sugar)
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (pure preferred)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Whipped cream (optional, for topping)
  • Extra pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon (for dusting, optional)

Instructions

  1. Brew your coffee: Make 1 cup of strong coffee or a double shot of espresso. Set aside.
  2. Combine the pumpkin base: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the milk, pumpkin purée, maple syrup, pumpkin pie spice, vanilla extract, and a tiny pinch of salt. Whisk until fully incorporated and smooth.
  3. Heat gently: Continue whisking as the mixture warms up. Heat for about 3 to 4 minutes until hot but not boiling (small bubbles will form around the edges). Do not let it boil.
  4. Froth if desired: Remove from heat and use a milk frother to froth the mixture for 20-30 seconds until light and foamy (optional).
  5. Combine and serve: Pour the hot coffee into a mug. Slowly pour the pumpkin milk mixture over the coffee. Stir gently to combine.
  6. Top it off: Add whipped cream if desired and dust with pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon. Serve immediately.

Notes

Use 100% pure pumpkin purée, not pumpkin pie filling. For an iced version, let coffee cool, then pour pumpkin milk mixture over ice. If latte is too thin, add more pumpkin purée or stronger coffee. If too thick, add a splash of milk. Whisk constantly to avoid graininess. Store leftover pumpkin milk mixture in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days; reheat gently on stovetop.
