Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (150g) fresh or dried figs, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons (40g) raw honey
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) water
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • Crisp cucumber slices (English cucumbers recommended)
  • Sweet cherry tomatoes, halved
  • Crunchy radishes, thinly sliced
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Seedless grapes (red or green)
  • Creamy goat cheese
  • Manchego or aged cheddar cheese
  • Fresh mozzarella balls
  • Toasted walnuts or pecans
  • Marcona almonds (optional)
  • Crusty baguette slices or artisan crackers
  • Olives (green and Kalamata, pitted)

Instructions

  1. Make the Honey Fig Spread: In a medium saucepan, combine chopped figs, raw honey, fresh lemon juice, water, and a pinch of sea salt. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally. Cook until figs soften and mixture thickens slightly, about 10–12 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.
  2. Prep Produce and Cheeses: Wash and thinly slice cucumbers and radishes. Halve cherry tomatoes and remove stems from grapes. Tear fresh basil leaves gently. Slice manchego or cheddar into bite-sized wedges. Arrange fresh mozzarella balls on a small dish.
  3. Toast Nuts (optional): In a dry skillet over medium heat, toast walnuts or pecans until fragrant and lightly browned, about 3–4 minutes. Stir frequently to prevent burning. Let cool.
  4. Arrange the Board: Place small bowls or ramekins for honey fig spread and olives on the serving board. Arrange clusters of cucumber slices, radishes, tomatoes, grapes, and basil around them. Add cheese wedges and mozzarella balls evenly spaced. Scatter toasted nuts and almonds in gaps. Fan out baguette slices or crackers along edges.
  5. Final Touches: Drizzle extra honey over the fig spread if desired. Add a few fresh basil leaves on top for color and fragrance. Ensure the board feels abundant but not overcrowded.

Notes

Simmer figs gently over medium-low heat to avoid burning. The honey fig spread thickens as it cools; reheat briefly if too firm. Slice produce uniformly for best presentation and texture. Let cheeses sit at room temperature 15–20 minutes before serving. Toast nuts for added flavor and crunch. The board can be customized seasonally or for dietary needs. Prepare honey fig spread a day ahead for deeper flavor.
