A visually stunning and easy-to-assemble Halloween appetizer featuring a cream cheese base with a white chocolate spider web design, surrounded by meats, cheeses, fruits, and nuts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz block soft cream cheese (softened)
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips (melted)
  • 1 pack black licorice strings (cut into 2-inch pieces)
  • 1 cup black olives (sliced)
  • 1 box assorted crackers (rectangular water crackers or plain sesame)
  • 6 oz sliced meats (prosciutto or ham)
  • 1 cup sliced fruits (grapes or apple slices)
  • 1/2 cup roasted nuts (almonds or cashews)
  • 1/2 cup dried fruit (apricots or cranberries)

Instructions

  1. Take the cream cheese out of the fridge 30 minutes before starting to ensure it is soft. Place the block in the center of a dark-colored board and spread it into a circle approximately 8-10 inches in diameter.
  2. Melt the white chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl in 15-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth. Transfer to a piping bag or Ziploc bag with a corner cut off.
  3. Starting in the center of the cream cheese circle, drag the melted chocolate out to the edge in straight lines (spokes) about 6-8 times. Then, drag the chocolate in small, irregular circles outward to connect the spokes, creating a web pattern. Let set for 2 minutes.
  4. Place sliced black olives on the board to form spider bodies. Arrange black licorice strings around the olives to resemble spider legs. Place 3-5 spiders on the board.
  5. Arrange crackers around the edge of the board. Place meats, fruits, nuts, and dried fruit in small piles or clusters around the web to balance the board.
  6. Serve at room temperature after letting the board sit for 15-20 minutes to allow flavors to bloom.

Notes

Ensure cream cheese is at room temperature to spread smoothly without cracking. Do not overheat white chocolate to prevent seizing. For a gluten-free version, use GF crackers and ensure all ingredients are certified GF. The web should look organic and messy, not perfectly symmetrical.
