These spooky witches finger pretzels are a quick and easy Halloween treat made with pretzel rods, white chocolate, and sliced almonds. They look genuinely creepy but are deliciously simple to make in just 20 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 standard 12-ounce bag pretzel rods (about 24 rods)
  • 12 ounces white chocolate melting wafers or white chocolate chips (about 2 cups)
  • ½ cup sliced almonds
  • Red food coloring gel (optional, for bloody tips)
  • Chocolate sprinkles or sanding sugar (optional)
  • Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Prep your workspace. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Have your pretzel rods and sliced almonds within easy reach.
  2. Melt the white chocolate. Place white chocolate wafers or chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals at 50% power, stirring thoroughly between each interval, until smooth and completely melted (about 1.5 to 2 minutes total). If thick, add ½ teaspoon coconut oil or vegetable shortening and stir.
  3. Check the consistency. The melted chocolate should be thin enough to coat the pretzel easily but thick enough to cling. Adjust with oil if needed.
  4. Dip the pretzels. Hold a pretzel rod by one end and dip the other end into the melted white chocolate, coating about two-thirds of the rod. Gently twist and turn as you lift it out, letting excess chocolate drip back into the bowl.
  5. Place on the baking sheet. Lay the dipped pretzel on the parchment-lined sheet. Repeat with remaining pretzels, spacing them about an inch apart.
  6. Add the fingernails. While the chocolate is still wet, press a sliced almond onto the tip of each pretzel with the pointed end facing outward. Press gently so it adheres.
  7. Create the knuckle wrinkles. Using a toothpick or the tip of a small knife, gently drag 2-3 horizontal lines across the chocolate coating about a third of the way down from the tip, and another set about halfway down.
  8. Add creepy details (optional). Use a tiny brush or toothpick to add a dab of red food coloring gel at the base of each almond for a bloody cuticle effect, or use melted dark chocolate to add fine hair lines or dirt smudges.
  9. Let them set. Allow the pretzels to sit at room temperature until the chocolate is completely firm, about 20-30 minutes. For faster setting, refrigerate for 10 minutes (but watch for condensation).
  10. Final touch. Once set, dust lightly with powdered sugar using a fine-mesh sieve for a ghostly appearance.

Notes

Work in small batches of 4-5 pretzels at a time to prevent chocolate from setting before adding almonds and wrinkles. Do not overheat white chocolate; use low power in microwave. For best results, use room temperature pretzel rods. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. Freezes well for up to 3 months.
